For startups
From idea to something you can show
Product prototyping takes a startup founder from idea to a working, interactive prototype, usually in four to six weeks: Gameplan builds the demo or hosted product, with an optional brand refresh and pitch deck, all scoped to the exact meeting you're building for, whether that's an investor raise, a partnership, or early customers.
I spent years in SaaS building and marketing products that had to work in rooms before they were ready.
- Darren Colclough, Founder of Gameplan
At Appspace, and through the companies I've worked with at Gameplan, I've spent a lot of time on product experience, strategy, Product-Led Growth, and the art of making something that did not fully exist yet feel real enough to sign, fund, or adopt. That meant a lot of prototypes, throwaway demos, and foundational builds that became the actual product.
What I learned: the prototype that wins in the room is not the most technically impressive one. It is the one where every interaction answers the question the investor or partner has not asked out loud yet. That requires product thinking, not just a developer.
Three modes
The right level of fidelity for your situation
At intake we figure out what your specific meeting actually needs. Sometimes a clickable demo is enough. Sometimes you need a working URL. We will tell you directly rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.
Clickable demo
A clean, interactive prototype real enough to walk an investor or partner through the experience without them squinting at wireframes. Not mock-ups: something you can actually open and hand across a table.
Good for
Investor meetings, hotel or partner LOIs, early user validation
Hosted prototype
A working, deployed product that could become the real thing. Clean code, real interactions, your domain. Founders who need to give investors a URL (not a Figma file) or who want the prototype to be the foundation of the actual build.
Good for
Seed rounds, co-founder recruiting, early customers who need to log in
Pitch-ready package
The prototype plus everything around it: brand refreshed from rough AI output to something credible, a deck that ties the story together, and the strategic narrative that shows you know what you're building and why it wins.
Good for
First-raise situations where everything needs to land at once
What you get
A prototype built for your meeting, with everything else available when you need it
The prototype is the job. Brand work, a pitch deck, product strategy: we bring those in when your situation calls for them. Most clients take some, not all.
Working prototype
Web-based, interactive, hosted on your domain. Real enough for a meeting, clean enough to iterate from.
Brand that doesn't embarrass you
If you have rough AI-generated branding, we clean it up and make it credible. If you have nothing, we define the essentials: name treatment, palette, type, voice. Enough to be taken seriously.
Pitch deck
The story from problem to solution to market to ask, structured, visually aligned to the brand, and written for the person on the other side of the table.
Product strategy
What to build first, what to defer, how the product grows users without a sales team. PLG thinking applied to your specific idea and your specific timeline.
Timeline-aware scoping
You have a meeting in six weeks. Everything we build is scoped against your actual deadlines: raise, partnership conversation, launch. Not a generic project plan.
The what-next conversation
We do not hand over files and disappear. We help you think through what comes after the prototype: the build, the hire, the raise, the next conversation you need to win.
How it works
From the first call to a working prototype
Intake
Tell us the idea and the timeline. Where you stand today, what milestones you need to hit, and what specific conversation (investor, partner, vendor, early customer) that this prototype has to work in.
Scope the right thing
We tell you honestly what level of fidelity your situation actually needs. Sometimes a clickable demo is enough and sometimes you need the real thing. We'll tell you either way.
Sprint
We move fast because startup founders can't wait for sequential handoffs between a designer, a developer, and a strategist. Need a prototype plus brand and pitch deck? We do that too.
Other services
The prototype is one piece of what we do
Brand, website, and marketing leadership are all things we handle at Gameplan. Many founders come to us for a prototype, then bring us in for what comes next.
Brand
From the basics we set during prototyping to a full brand system: positioning, identity, messaging.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a prototype and an MVP?
A prototype is something you can show. An MVP is something that works. They are not the same, and which one you need depends entirely on where you are. If you have a meeting with investors in six weeks, you almost certainly need a prototype first, not an MVP. We will help you figure out which one your situation calls for and build accordingly.
How long does it take to go from idea to prototype?
Four to six weeks for most engagements, assuming we have the inputs: a clear description of the idea, a defined target audience, and the specific conversation we are building for. The hardest constraint is usually the founder's availability for the intake and feedback rounds, not the build time.
Do you only build the prototype, or will you help with the strategy behind it?
Both. A prototype without a product strategy is a demo that raises the question "and then what?" We bring the strategy (what the product does, how it grows, how it charges) into the build from the beginning, so the prototype demonstrates a business, not just a feature.
Can the prototype become the real product?
Yes, when we scope it that way. We will be direct with you at intake: some founders need a clean, throw-away demo; others need the prototype to be the foundation of the actual codebase. We build both, and we will tell you which one fits your situation rather than defaulting to the more expensive option.
I already have rough branding from an AI tool. Do you need to replace it?
Not always. Sometimes the AI output is a reasonable starting point and we can clean it up. Sometimes it is too generic to be fixable. We will look at it honestly and tell you which situation you are in before we scope any brand work.
What if I already have a technical co-founder or a designer on the team?
Even better. We can scope the engagement to complement what you already have: strategy and deck if the build is handled, or the full package if you need everything. We are not precious about being the only person in the room.
What industries do you work in?
Mostly B2B SaaS and marketplace-style products, with some consumer apps. The common thread is founders who need to raise, sign partnerships, or acquire early customers with a product that doesn't fully exist yet. The specifics vary; the challenge is always the same.
